One of the reasons we opted to name this site The Midland is because of The Midland publication John T. Frederick oversaw for so many years. The Midland was a labor of love for him as he was always delighted to find new authors who wanted their material published, but could not find anybody in the big publishing companies to pay attention to them. It was not until Grandfather had passed away that we really realized the full extent of his work and influence. When we were growing up, he was just plain ol Grandfather to us. He always sported a pair of coveralls when he was visiting us for the summer and always had time to read us a story. When Grandfather was around, there was not a weed on the property that was safe from him. Many summers were spent cleaning weeds from his property, and he would always pay us to do the work. After his passing, and as we grew older, we realized just how much Grandfather had done in his life. Unfortunately, it was too late to talk with him about it and fill in the gaps. Grandfather was always very modest, so it would probably have been difficult to get his to really fess up and admit everything he had done. However, we have been in contact with people who have known him and they have been most generous in supplying information on Grandfather. Once we get all that material collected, we will publish it here. Again, we hope you find our site useful in some way. Please drop us a line with any comments or suggestions you may have. |
