| Early Frederick Family Members The first known Frederick in America, George Frederick was believed to have been born in about 1727 in the Upper Salford Towship area of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. No information is known about his parents, or when they arrived in America. It is believed, although this has not been verified, that they may have arrived in Pennsylvania from the state of Saxony which is located in present day Germany. George married Catherine Oberholtzer around 1753 in Upper Salford, although some records show them getting married as late as 1768. The marriage produced eight children - Barbara, Catherine, Maria, John, Benjamin, George, Henry, and Jacob. It is believed George died about 1 December, 1806 in Upper Salford. Again, conflicting information also lists his death location in Lower Salford Township. While it is not known for sure where he is buried, his descendants were mostly buried in the East Coventry Mennonite Cemetary located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Benjamin Frederick was born 14 August, 1770 to George and Catherine Oberholtzer Frederick. While there is conflicting information as to where exactly he was born, most evidence points to him being born in Upper Salford Township, which is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Little is known about what he did, although most likely he was involved in farming as well. In about 1794 he and Hannah Stauffer were married. Their marriage produced eight children - Abraham, Benjamin, Hannah, Rachel, Isaac, Ann, Jacob, and Deborah. Benjamin passed away on 26 May, 1849 in Upper Salford Township. He was laid to rest in the East Coventry Mennonite Cemetary, located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It is believed that Hannah died in about 1861 and was also buried in the East Coventry Mennonite Cemetary. Abraham Frederick was one of eight children born to Benjamin and Hannah Stauffer Frederick. Abraham was born on 13 July, 1795 in Upper Salford Township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. On 11 March, 1827 he and Mary Mills were married, most likely there in the same area in which he was born. He and Mary would have five kids - John, Mary, Joshua, Franklin, and William. Very little is known about Abraham and what he did for a living. There is some speculation he may have been involved in steel or mining, but so far no definitive proof has been found. As was common with many people of German descent living in this area, he may also have been involved in farming. Abraham Frederick passed away on 19 July, 1859 in East Coventry, located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He was laid to rest in the East Coventry Mennonite Cemetary. Mary Mills Frederick passed away on 11 January, 1848 in East Coventry, and was also buried in the East Coventry Mennonite Cemetary. John Mills Frederick was born 17 December, 1830 to Abraham and Mary Frederick. Born in East Coventry, Pennsylvania, John spent his early years there before eventually moving to Illinois in the 1850s. While in Illinois John met and married Isabella Roberts. They were married on 29 March, 1857 in Shelbyville. At some point in either the late 1850s or very early 1860s he and Isabella moved to Wisconsin, settling in the Belmont area. On 14 August, 1862 he enlisted in the Union Army with Company B, 23rd Winsconsin Infantry Regiment. During the Civil War John served with the 23rd Infantry Regiment as they served under General Sherman's drive to conquer the Confederate stronghold at Vicksburg. John saw action leading up to the siege of Vicksburg, but during operations there he suffered an injury to his hip and leg when a heavy timber fell on him that was being used for fortifications. John was in and out of the unit for a period of time until he was permanently transferred to the Reserves due to his injury. He was finally mustered out on 5 July, 1865. He would suffer side effects of his injury for the rest of his life, eventually drawing disability pay. In the late 1860s he and Isabella moved to Iowa and settled near the small town of Corning. Here he began farming, along with running a store in town for a short while. During the course of their marriage he and Isabella had 12 children, one of which died shortly after birth, and another that was killed in a train accident at age 19. John Mills Frederick passed away 5 October, 1895 in Corning and was buried in the Lincoln Center Cemetary. Isabella passed away on 13 September, 1901, and is also buried there.
