Kristen is the oldest of the Frederick children. Kristen and her twin sister Susan were born in Harrisville, Michigan. She attended school in the Alcona County school system, graduating in 1970 near the top of her class. Following graduation Kristen attend Adrian College, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Mathematics.

Following graduation Kristen followed in the footsteps of her father and two grandfathers and began a teaching career. She would spend the bulk of her career in the Flint, Michigan area teaching math and advanced math classes. Kristen became heavily involved in teacher-administration negotiations, frequently soliciting advice from her father on how to handle negotiating issues. She would also coach girl's basketball and volleyball during her career.

In 1994 Kristen and Gary LePalm were married and settled in the Davison, Michigan area. Kristen would retire from teaching in 2005 following a career of over 30 years in the field. She is now heavily involved in local charitable activities and has recently been awarded her black belt in Tang Soo Do.

Kristen and Gary are the proud parents on one son, Matthew. Matthew, along with Gary, is also involved in Tang Soo Do, making it a true family affair.
