| The Midland Magazine
Founded by John T. Frederick in 1915, the magazine went on to become an outlet for aspiring writers who couldn't gain a foothold with the larger publishing houses. Frederick also used the forum to review recently published books by many of the well known authors of the day. It was as a literary critic that he would gain most of his fame from, eventually hosting a weekly radio show devoted to book reviews. The Midland closed its doors in 1933 due to The Great Depression, but the legacy it left still lives today. Through these pages we hope to bring you as much of the history of The Midland as we can, although many records no longer remain. We also hope to bring you some of the unpublished work of John T. Frederick, which include short stories and poems. It is our earnest hope to keep the legacy of The Midland and John T. Frederick alive for future generations to enjoy. In addition to the information here, an outstanding source of information on the history of The Midland is a book written by Dr. Milton Reigelman. Entitled "The Midland - A Venture in Literary Regionalism" the book was written by Dr. Reigelman for his Doctoral thesis. A great deal of the information contained in the book came directly from John T. Frederick.
